Abstract:
It will help technological innovation to reach a new level in view of the changes in tangible and intangible networks and technological innovation caused by the “new infrastructure” in China. It empirically analyses the relationships of regional network access and input, output and transaction value on three dimensions of technology innovation from two aspects of tangible transportation network and invisible communication network with the data of 31 provinces from 2000 to 2018. The empirical results found that: First, there is a positive correlation between the level of regional traffic network access and communication network access with technological innovation investment. Specifically, there is a U-shaped relationship between communication network hardware infrastructure and it. Second, there is a positive correlation between the level of regional transportation network with technological innovation output, while there are inconsistent effects between regional communication network accessibility with technological innovation output in the long-term and short-term. Third, there is a positive correlation between the level of communication network accessibility with technological innovation transactions. Specifically, there is a U-shaped relationship with the communication network infrastructure and technology transactions. At the same time, it is found that technological innovation input and technological transactions are negatively correlated, while technological innovation output and technological transactions are positively correlated which there is an inverted U-shaped relationship between them. It should pay attention to the short-term and long-term effects of the “squeeze-out effect” and “inflection point effect” in promoting new infrastructure investment and technological innovation in different regions.
